We are pleased to share the news that Erin Brooks of The Wine Advocate has published new reviews for ten RIDGE wines as part of her newest article on Sonoma and Napa County wines.
“This next installment of reviews from Sonoma County is focused on the cool 2023 vintage, where producers across the region turned out strong portfolios of elegantly styled wines, from Kosta Browne in the Russian River Valley to Donum in Carneros, Flowers on the Sonoma Coast and Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley.” – Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
“The 2023 Lytton Springs is a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mataro that matured for 16 months in 19% new air-dried American oak. It’s especially elegant and expressive this year, offering pure aromas of black cherry, blueberry, damp earth, sage, violet and cast iron. The full-bodied palate features concentrated, fragrant flavors. It’s framed by fine, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long finish replete with soaring floral perfume. It should be long lived in the cellar.” — Erin Brooks
“The 2023 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch is a blend of 79% Zinfandel, 10% Alicante Bouschet, 9% Petite Sirah and 2% Mataro that matured for 14 months in 3% new air-dried American oak. It has kaleidoscopic aromas of wild berry fruit, tobacco, aniseed, sage and lavender. The full-bodied palate is just as generous, flooding the mouth with concentrated, complex flavors. It’s structured by fine, chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, layered finish.” — Erin Brooks
“The 2023 Geyserville is a blend of 70% Zinfandel, 18% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah and 3% Alicante Bouschet that matured for 16 months in 15% new air-dried American oak. It has youthfully dense aromas of blackcurrant, tar, violet, mint, turned earth and squid ink. The full-bodied palate is powerfully styled with highly concentrated, mineral-driven flavors. It’s framed by muscular, grippy tannins and juicy acidity and has a long, latent finish. It should be long lived in the cellar.” — Erin Brooks
“The 2022 San Lorenzo is a blend of 50% Zinfandel, 42% Petite Sirah and 8% Alicante Bouschet that matured for 16 months in 15% new air-dried American oak. It has slowly unfurling scents of briar fruit, graham cracker, autumn leaves, aniseed and dried flowers. The full-bodied palate is powerful and concentrated with floral flavors. It’s structured by muscular, grippy tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a very long, layered finish. It will benefit from several years in the cellar.” — Erin Brooks
“The 2023 Zinfandel East Bench comes from vines planted in 2000 from Geyserville cuttings. Matured for 14 months in 14% new air-dried American oak, the nose is bursting with compelling layers of wild berry fruit, prosciutto, fennel seed, tobacco, sage and lavender. The full-bodied palate is highly concentrated and spicy. It’s framed by chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a very long, lifted finish.” — Erin Brooks
“The 2024 Chenin Blanc Heringer is dry and electric, though it offers rich textural breadth due to a brief period of skin contact; Lytton Springs winemaker Shauna Rosenblum and assistant winemaker Michael Bairdsmith decided to do skin contact overnight to add texture and tropical character to the wine. Matured for six months in 10% new air-dried American oak, it has dramatically unfurling scents of dried apples, lime pith, lemon verbena, chamomile and beeswax. Medium-bodied, it floods the mouth with waves of honeyed orchard fruit. It’s foiled by a crescendo of racy acidity that lures you back for another sip, and its mouth-coating texture drives a very long, spicy finish.” — Erin Brooks
