Vintage Notes

Pruned late to avoid frosts, and held back further by a cool spring, these hundred-year-old vines were harvested in the last days of October. The grapes, particularly the zinfandel, were very ripe. As is past years-reflecting the site and its nineteenth century mixed-varietal vineyard-we included a significant amount of mataro. The wine is of a size we have chosen to designate “Late Picked”, setting it apart from our other zinfandels. The wild intensity of cool-climate fruit makes this lovely wine most appealing in its youth, though it has the structure to develop further with eight to ten years of bottle age.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods, we strive to produce exceptional wines from distinctive fruit.
