Vintage Notes

This is Ridge’s first wine from this eighty-year-old vineyard, which is in a small valley near the Sonoma/Mendocino line. Carignan ripens later than zinfandel, and benefits from a warmer climate. Oat Valley, more protected than Geyserville, seems an ideal site. We harvested the grapes-some of the lovliest fruit o fthe season-in late September. The acid/tannin balance adds liveliness to the very full body. The wine is enjoyable now; its lovely fruit will be most intense over the next five years. PD (2/96)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
