Vintage Notes

It is pure chance that this, our twentieth vintage of York Creek Cabernet, should be our last from this fine Napa vineyard. Like the 1974, it is 100% cabernet sauvignon. In the future, Fritz Maytag, the vineyard owner, will producue his own wine; we will focus on the Santa Cruz Mountains cabernet and merlot on Monte Bello Ridge. With its bright, vibrant berry fruit and the spice and earthiness typical of York Creek, this full, ripe wine is a fitting close to an era. Enjoyable within two years of release, it will develop fully over the next ten years.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
