Vintage Notes

Late spring rains delayed the start of the growing season, but provided needed groundwater. The majority of Santa Cruz Mountains vines are on the old Jimsomare Ranch, and were harvested in the latter half of September. In all but a few tanks, the grapes were fermented with a floating – rather than submerged – cap, and the juice drawn into a large tub for aeration during pump-over. Merlot was included to balance the cabernet tannins and add complementary character. This lovely wine is as soft and approachable as the 1991, yet richer and fuller. Enjoyable now, it will develop over the next ten years.
