Vintage Notes

Ridge’s most memorable Paso Robles Zinfandels have invariably come from the fully-ripe, sometimes late-picked grapes. In 1991, we harvested in early October, capturing ideal ripeness and intensity in a gentle, submerged-cap fermentation. A third of the wine was racked early to new, air-dried American oak, whose spice and tannin add definition to the rich, jammy fruit. This wine will be at its best over the next five or six years.

History

30 years ago Ridge made its first Monte Bello, and two years later its first zinfandel. We searched California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. To bring the distinctive character of each vineyard to the wine, we use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking.
