Vintage Notes

These old vines were planted just after the turn of the century by the Pagani family. The region, Sonoma Valley, is quite cool. The rapes ripen slowly, tending toward firm acidity and bright fruit. Alicante Bouschet, as well as the more typical petite sirah, is part of the vineyard blend. The spicy zinfandel, with its intense, ripe, berry fruit, will be enjoyable soon after release. In this, our first vintage, we must assume that low yields from old vines will produce a wine capable of aging over the next ten years.

History

30 years ago, Ridge made its first Monte Bello and two years later its first zinfandel. As pioneers of single-vineyard wines, we explore California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. To bring out the distinctive character of each vineyard, we use the minimal handling of traditional winemaking.
