Vintage Notes

Each section of our one-hundred-year-old Lytton Springs estate vineyard is harvested and fermented separately. In 1991, from the outset, the wine from the southernmost of the five hills was judged most intense. Rich berry fruit and firm structure characterize this excellent zinfandel, which replaces the Lytton Springs Winery Reserve of past years. Though well-balanced now, it will soften and gain depth with a year or two of bottle age, developing fully over the next ten years.

History

30 years ago Ridge made its first Monte Bello—twenty years ago its first Lytton Springs Zinfandel. As pioneers of single-vineyard wines, we explored California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. To bring the distinctive character of each vineyard to the wine, we use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
