Vintage Notes

In this cool growing season, we picked selectively over twelve days in late October, harvesting these grapes at ideal ripeness. Fermented on the skins for a for full two weeks, the wine was then racked to American oak, where it remained for sixteen months. Its firm acidity and bright fruit are typical of the more elegant vintages from Jimsomare. This zinfandel’s complex spice and berry overtones will be at their most pleasing over the next five years.

History

30 years ago Ridge made its first Monte Bello, and two years later its first zinfandel. As pioneers of single-vineyard wines, we explored California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. To bring the distinctive character of each vineyard to the wine, we use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history. 30 years ago Ridge made its first Monte Bello, and two years later its first zinfandel.
