This 19th-century, mixed-varietal vineyard is planted in gravelly, old rover bed soils close by the Russian River. In 1991 an excellent set produced good yields, given the age of the vines; we waited until the fourth week of October to harvest. The zinfandel was particularly ripe, adding a touch of sweetness to the full, complex flavors. To retain the lovely, rich fruit, we bottled earlier than usual. the wine is very enjoyable now and will be at its best over the next five years. PD (7/92)
30 Years ago, Ridge made its first Monte Bello Cabernet. As pioneers of single-vineyard winemaking, we have explored California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are perfectly matched. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to always produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
