Vintage Notes

In 1990 the earliest-ripening vines on this old vineyard were harvested in mid-September, while the last were left until October to ripen very fully. We increased the number of new barrels used in aging, and added five percent carignan to soften and round out the tannins. The last-picked grapes, combined with the bright fruit of the main harvest, have given us one of the most complex Paso Robles zinfandels to date. Well balanced and quite enjoyable now, it will be at its best over the next five or six years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart.
