Vintage Notes

This lovely wine is our last Park-Muscatine Zinfandel, and a fitting culmination to the twelve vintages we were privileged to make from this great piece of ground. The vineyard was sold in 1991 and is being replanted to cabernet. Grapes from the few remaining 19th-century vines provide the core of concentrated fruit and spice typical of the vineyard. This is complemented bythe lively fruit of the younger petite sirah and zinfandel, and by small cooperage aging. The tannins, as always, are firm, and the wine will benefit from several more years of bottle age. PD (3/92)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged cap fermentation, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
