Vintage Notes

The La Questa clone of cabernet sauvignon, originally planted in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1892 by E.H. Rixford, provided the cuttings for this mountain vineyard above Dry Creek Valley. We harvested the third week of September and fermented using our traditional submerged cap technique. After fourteen months in air-dried american oak, the wine was fined with fresh egg whites. the deep fruit and chalky tannins give this big, muscular wine its intense character. It is quite firm and will need at least two years to soften. PD (6/92)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged cap fermentation, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
