Vintage Notes

In 1990, excellent growing conditions fully ripened the franc on this cool, coastal-climate vineyard. The structure of the wine is firm, with high acid and chalky tannins. Merlot from the warmer, lower slopes moderated acidity, and a light fining rounded the tannins. This big, complex wine is an excellent example of varietal cabernet franc. It will soften further with a year or two of bottle age and develop fully over the next ten to twelve years. PD (5/92)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged cap fermentation, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
