Alone among our old-vine zinfandel vineyards, Paso Robles is located south of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is cooled by Pacific breezes, yet typically escapes the September rains which can adversely affect the North Coast. With higher yields in 1989, the first blocks harvested came in at modest sugar levels. Experience has taught us that inclusion of riper grapes can enhance the blend, so the rest were picked as they matured fully over a four-week period. Enjoyable now, this regionally distinctive zinfandel will be at its best in the next five or six years.
