Vintage Notes

We harvested our Bradford Merlot from this cool , mountain vineyard, as well as small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and franc. In 1988, there was just enough franc to make a separate wine for our cabernet program. The fully ripe fruit, typical of the vintage, is balanced by the high, natural acidity of the vineyard. This is a fine example of a spicy, fruity cabernet franc. The full, chalky tannins have begun to soften and the wine will develop fully over the next ten to twelve years. PD (3/90)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes use of natural yeast, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
