Vintage Notes

On the Ridge each year, we select the most intense wines from our estate vineyard for the MonteBello Cabernet, and follow the same procedure at the Jimsomare Ranch. The wines remaining from the two vineyards are then selected and combined to make a cabernet representative of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. The spicy 1987 is in a cool climate, claret style, and will be quite enjoyable soon after release. The structure is firm and the wine will continue to develop over the next eight to ten years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
