Unreasonably warm weather during flowering limited the size of the crop at Paso Robles. We succeeded in harvesting at full maturity despite the difficulties of an uneven set. We pressed at fifteen days on average for full extraction, and half of the wine was lightly fined in its first year to bring the tannins into balance. The new oak in the wine’s early aging is evident in a lovely, sweet-spicy nose. Round and full with an elegant finish, this zinfandel will be enjoyable when released, and showing at its best over the next five years.
