Vintage Notes

Every year we select the most intense and characteristic wines from all the blocks of our estate vineyard for the Monte Bello Cabernet. We do the same at the Schwabacher estate for the Jimsomare Cabernet. The remaining wines from the two properties are then selected to make a softer, more approachable wine for our Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. In 1986 we eliminated some of the press and the lighter wines, and added five percent franc for this lovely cabernet. It should be enjoyable soon after release and develop fully in eight to ten years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
