Vintage Notes

In all of the eight vintages we have made from the Dusi ranch, the vineyard itself has set the style – broad and spicy. In 1983 we picked just at maturity, fermented twelve days on the skins to dryness and, after a full malolactic, put the wine to barrel for eighteen months. To complement the spiciness of the vintage we increased the proportion of new oak and produced an elegant, well-defined Zinfandel. By this fall it will begin to soften and will develop fully over the next four to five years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
