Vintage Notes

Our first York Creek Petite Sirah, made in 1971, set a standard of excellence against which that varietal is often judged. The 1982 completed a full malolactic fermentation and was aged for twenty-six months in small oak cooperage to soften the firm tannins. The complexity of the varietal spice and extended oak aging show clearly in this fine wine. It will develop beautifully with five to eight years of bottle age yet be enjoyable to taste this coming year.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
