Vintage Notes

In the warm fall of 1978, these old vines gave us three separate wines. The majority picked at full maturity produced this rich, spicy Zinfandel; a small block picked later made a dry late harvest; and another, extremely overripe, produced our 10.5% residual sugar late harvest. This excellent wine should develop beautifully with several years of bottle age.

History

Founded in 1962, Ridge was one of the first of the “domain” wineries. The vineyards are chosen for their low yield and distinctive character, and all our wines are aged in small oak cooperage with the majority receiving no cellar treatment other than racking. Located on the Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyard are 10 miles south of Palo Alto, 15 miles inland from the ocean, and more than 2000 feet above San Francisco Bay.
