The First Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Our Historic Winery & Vineyards
We’re excited to announce the first behind-the-scenes tour of our historic Monte Bello winery, Summit Monte Bello. Since bonding the winery in 1962, the only people who have had this rare opportunity are select members of the press and wine industry VIPs. Now, Summit Monte Bello allows wine club members an up close and personal look at our historic limestone barrel cellar, our iconic estate vineyards, and the place where we produce our flagship wines.
The History of the “Upper Winery”
In 1885, Osea Perrone, a doctor who became a prominent member of San Francisco’s Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge. He terraced the slopes and planted vineyards, using native limestone to construct the Monte Bello Winery, producing the first vintage under that name in 1892. This unique cellar, built into the mountainside on three levels, is RIDGE’s production facility. At 2,600 feet, it is surrounded by the “upper vineyard,” now referred to as the Perrone Ranch.
What Will You See on Summit Monte Bello?
Guests will hop on our electric vehicle and wind through vineyard blocks at 2,700 feet, offering stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and Silicon Valley below. Following the vineyard tour, we’ll visit the limestone cellar of our historic upper winery, then finish with a seated tasting of Estate Wines paired with a selection of cheese & charcuterie.
Who is Summit Monte Bello Open to?
Summit Monte Bello is available exclusively to members of our wine club and is limited to small groups of five or fewer guests. Not a member? Explore our membership options and join the club for access.
How to Book a Coveted Spot
Summit Monte Bello is offered daily, by reservation, at 11am and 2pm. Guests can plan to spend about two hours with us on the mountain exploring our vineyards and historic cellar and tasting a selection of wines grown and produced at our Monte Bello Estate.
