Vintage Notes

Another late spring and a mild growing season left us waiting – with a weather eye out – until early November to harvest these vines. The grapes (a quarter left as whole clusters to accentuate fruit and moderate tannins) fermented on their own yeasts. York Creek Vineyard includes eight small parcels of petite sirah, the older vines on Dynamite Hill dominate this wine, which includes the Sonoma Block and Devils Mountain, as well as nine percent Kite Hill Zinfandel. This classic york Creek needed a full two years in barrel to soften and begin to show the distinctive spice and dark fruit of the vineyard. Lovely now, it will be at its best with five to twelve years of bottle age.

History

Since 1962, Ridge ahs championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit.
