Vintage Notes

We have crushed merlot from York Creek every year since 1974, including it in the cabernet. Two small, separate releases were made in 1976 and 1990. Mountain grown, low yielding merlot can be every bit as tough as cabernet. For round, full tannins, we limited recirculation during fermentation and fined early with six egg whites per barrel. Two months before bottling, we included York Creek cabernet franc and petit verdot. Balanced and accessible, this excelelnt wine can be enjoyed now or laid down for up to ten years. PD (3/93)

History

30 years ago, Ridge made its first Monte Bello-17 years ago, its first York Creek Cabernet. We use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking, enabling the distinctive quality of the vineyard to define the wine. As pioneers of single-vineyard wines, we are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
