Vintage Notes

The five acres of nineteenth-century vines on Jimsomare Ranch are now interplanted with a number of young vines that replace those lost to age. On Monte Bello, whose cool climate is ideal for the Bordeaux varieties and chardonnay, zinfandel has a hard time ripening. Despite this year’s warm summer, full flavor did not develop until October. The young- and old-vine fruit was fermented separately in two small tanks. After tasting, the two were combined, giving us the intense berry fruit and lively acidity of this exceptional wine. Enjoyable now, it will continue to improve over five to seven years of bottle age.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce exceptional wines from superior and distinctive fruit.
