Buchignani Ranch
Alexander Valley

After two years of modest yields, these old zinfandel vines set a very full crop. Fortunately, as the fruit ripened, warm August weather concentrated flavors and filled out the structure. Fermented on its own yeast, and carried through a natural secondary (malolactic) without inoculation, the wine was racked to air-dried american oak barrels for twelve months of aging. The bright fruit and firm acid of Buchignani old-vine carignane add definition and a touch of elegance to the ripe zinfandel. This spicy, well-structured wine is enjoyable now, and will be at its best over the next five years.
Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Our aim is to guide the natural process; using traditional methods, we strive to produce exceptional wines from distinctive fruit.
