Vintage Notes

This ripe vintage is much in the style of last year’s late-picked Nervo. The well-drained hillside soils provided unusually small berries, intensifying both fruit and tannins. Two small hundred-year-old mixed-varietal parcels make up half the wine; the rest comes from a young block of zinfandel near the old caboose—pulled up the slope, years ago, from the rail line below. Fermented separately on their natural yeasts, the three were pressed after seven days to moderate tannins. Still, structurally, it is “serious” wine. Intense fruit and a slight sweetness on the palate give immediate appeal to this robust zinfandel; its firm structure ensures five to seven years of further development.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare sites where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Using traditional methods, we strive for exceptional wines from distinctive fruit. For information on the wines, or visiting our two locations, please contact us.
