Vintage Notes

This year’s spring storms did not drastically affect the already modest yields on these turn-of-the-century vines, and a warm summer ripened the grapes by mid-October. Mataro’s typical earthy, tarry spice and fresh fruit are complemented by the full texture and bright fruit of the added zinfandel. Aged in four-yearold, air-dried american oak, the wine’s dominant characteristics are fruit and spice. This lovely, elegant mataro is appealing now; it will be at its best over the next five years. PD (1/98)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
