Vintage Notes

Whitten Ranch is part of the Geyserville vineyard, and its vines are well over a century old. We normally include this carignan in the Geyserville bottling, but Ridge’s assemblage is done by extensive blind tasting, not by recipe. In 1990, 1992, and 1994, enough remained for a limited Advance Tasting Program release. We ferment carignan as we do cabernet, with a floating cap of grapes over which the juice is pumped to achieve maximum extraction of color and tannin. Delicious now, this elegant wine will be at its best over the next five years. PD (2/96)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
