Vintage Notes

The six small hills that border Lytton East on the south and east have the poorest soils in the vineyard. It follows that the vines-planted at the turn of the century-are small and heavily stressed. In 1994, we again kept part of the wine from Six Hills separate for this limited release to members of Ridge’s Advance Tasting Program. Big, full, thick, and chalky, it shows lovely ripe blackberry fruit and a complex of spices. Tannins are very firm, almost aggressive, and will carry the wine for ten or more years of bottle age.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce exceptional wines from superior and distinctive fruit.
