Vintage Notes

This low-lying vineyard along the Russian River did not ripen fully until mid-October. The old zinfandel block was not up to its usual quality; fortunately the younger vines were sufficiently stressed to take its place. The old mixed alicante and petite sirah, harvested the same day, add depth and complexity to the young zinfandel’s intense berry fruit. A third of the wine was aged in new, air-dried american oak, a third in two-year-old, and the rest in older, more neutral barrels. Big, earthy and robust, it will be at its best over the next five to eight years. PD (12/95)

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
