Vintage Notes

Monte Bello Ridge’s cool climate – so well suited to cabernet and its related varietals – makes the ripening of zinfandel a chancy proposition at best. Yields from the few acres of the 19th-century vines on the Schwabacher Ranch are very low, but by picking selectively two or three times in October, we can produce a complex, quite different, but very fine zinfandel. The ’93 is one of the loveliest of recent years. Its ripe, red berry fruit and intense spice are vibrant with firm acidity. Enjoyable now, it will continue to develop in bottle over the next five to seven years.

History

Since 1962, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, exploring California in search of great vineyards where climate, soil, and varietal are ideally matched. Fine wine, when made traditionally, is the result of a natural process. Using traditional methods and minimal handling, we strive to produce the highest quality wines from superior and distinctive fruit. We are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
