Vintage Notes

After a late start, and formation of a good crop at set, warm fall weather fully ripened the York Creek franc by late October. At crush, half the fermentors included uncrushed, whole clusters to enhance varietal fruit and moderate tannins. We fined most of the franc early and aged it for fourteen months in air-dried american oak. Two months before bottling we added petit verdot to enhance definition and complexity. This full, rich wine is enjoyable now, and will develop further with eight to ten years of bottle age. PD (3/93)

History

30 years ago, Ridge made its first Monte Bello-17 years ago, its first York Creek Cabernet. We use the minimal handling typical of traditional winemaking, enabling the distinctive quality of the vineyard to define the wine. As pioneers of single-vineyard wines, we are proud that our three decades are an integral part of California’s winemaking history.
