Vintage Notes

As the vines on Dynamite Hill enter their twentieth year, the quality of fruit now equals that of the vines on Devils Hill. These two, and The Lake, account for all of the producing petite sirah on the York Creek Vineyard. For the first time since 1979, we have combined the three. Over the course of fourteen months, the wine was fined twice to soften its firm tannins. By including zinfandel from the same vineyard, as we do every few years, we have enhanced the fruit’s liveliness and complexity. Quite lovely now, this fine wine will develop fully over the next to ten to fifteen years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
