Vintage Notes

In 1989 a lovely Indian summer followed the September rains, fully ripening the cabernet and merlot on our Ridge. The softer, more accessible cabernets from the Monte Bello and Jimsomare vineyards were combined with merlot and franc to produce this full, round wine. It was aged sixteen months in small cooperage, forty percenet of which was new oak, then lightly fined with fresh egg whites. This lively, elegant wine is approachable now, and will develop fully over the next ten years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
