Vintage Notes

Over the years, yields from Park-Muscatine’s hundred-year-old zinfandel and petite sirah have slowly diminished. In the last few vintages we have included the best grapes from later plantings. Those vines have enhanced the fruit and softened-modestly-the tough tannins typical of this limited release. The wine needs three or four years to begin to soften, and will develop fully by the turn of the century. PD (2/91)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques-including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity-have set Ridge apart. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
