Vintage Notes

York Creek’s oldest vines are planted on Devils Hill, so-called because the land’s steepness makes it hazardous to cultivate. Over the years, yields have dropped; one by one, most of the old vines have been replaced. Despite these younger vines, the soils, exposure and stress in this location produce a wine that is typically tougher and more idiosyncratic than wine from other pats of the ranch. The big, chewy tannins need time to develop. This small ATP release will be at its best with five to ten years of bottle age.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
