Vintage Notes

As much of the North Coast, inclement spring weather severely reduced the number of grapes at set. The small crop matured evenly until the intense heat prior to harvest slowed ripening. he lower ranch, usually the first to be picked, dropped back, while the upper vineyards with a cooler, ridge-top climate advanced. The wine shows lovely, plum-like fruit, complemented by spicy oak. Its firm tannins will begin to soften by the time of release, yet carry the wine for ten to fifteen years of further development. PD (4/90)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes use of natural yeast, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
