For the second consecutive year, variable spring weather reduced yields. On September fifth, we harvested half the crop at very full maturity. The rest came in a week later just barely ripe, and served to balance the high sugars. With this uneven ripening, the tannins were relatively light. To augment the structure we included petite sirah. Carignan, in turn, added richness. The wine is quite accessible now, and will be in its prime over the next five or six years.
