Vintage Notes

The name of this vineyard on Monte Bello ridge is an acronym for James (Senior and Junior), Sophie, and MArie Louise Schwabacher. We select the blocks rigorously, with the majority of grapes going into our Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet. This and the 1985 are two of the finest vintages we have made from Jimsomare. The lively spice and deep berry fruit are carried on a firm structure of round, chalky tannin. The wine should be laid down for a minimum if five years, and will continue to develop into the next century. PD (4/90)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes use of natural yeast, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
