82% Zinfandel, 13% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah
1988
Geyserville
Alexander Valley
13.9%
For the second year in a row, blustery spring weather during set reduced yields. In harvesting the old sections, we found approximately five percent concentration from water loss and an additional five percent from botrytis. The resulting high sugars were matched in the younger sections. We estimate, as best we can by vine count, the field blend of carignan and petite sirah. As always we included those one-hundred-year-old vines. This rich, full wine is an excellent example of the Geyserville in a warm vintage. The intense fruit is appealing now, but will develop further complexity with bottle age.
Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries—limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeast submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at each transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay
