Vintage Notes

In future years, the few barrels of this old-vine zinfandel will be made at the vineyard, so this is our last vintage. Warm weather in 1988 concentrated the fruit, and the high acidity typical of Bradford Mountain provided balance. This unusual wine shows the individuality of a great piece of ground planted to a historic zinfandel clone. Rich in tannin, it will soften within a year or two, and develop further over the next ten to twelve years. PD (6/90)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes use of natural yeast, racking to achieve clarity, and filtering only when necessary for stability. Our winery and estate vineyards are located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking San Francisco and the Bay Area.
