Vintage Notes

We have harvested this small, mountain vineyard since 1979. The surviving 19th century vines and the oldest of the replanted rows are set aside for the Advanced Tasting Program. The 1987 shows the spice and berry fruit typical of Howell Mountain. The structure is firm, but not tough. It should be enjoyable within a year or two of release and develop fully over the next eight to ten years. PD (3/89)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques-including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity-have set Ridge apart. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
