Vintage Notes

Although merlot is the principal wine we make from the Bradford Mountain Ranch, we also harvest cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. In 1987 there was sufficient cabernet sauvignon to make a limited release for our CP membership. Varietal character is carried by the firm natural acidity and full tannins. Additional complexity comes from the secondary yeast fermentation-more typical of traditional French wines. this excellent Sonoma County cabernet is round and full enough to enjoy in its youth, but will develop if laid down for five to eight years. PD (2/89)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques-including use of natural yeasts in extended fermentations and careful racking for clarity-have set Ridge apart. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
