Dry Creek Valley

This is our third release from Bill Hambrecht’s Lytton Springs Vineyard, and our eighth vintage under this name, which we pioneered 1972. Thirty-five acres of very old Zinfandel, Carignane and Grenache assure the wine’s individuality. In 1986 yields were high throughout California and, with a full crop at Lytton Springs, we allowed the grapes to ripen fully for intensity. Once in barrel, the wine was handled gently- racked five times instead of seven, and topped less often to maintain the ripe, fresh, fruit flavors. This excellent wine is beginning to soften and should develop fully over the next five or six years.
Founded in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s small, fine California wineries- limiting production to achieve the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes the use of natural yeasts in extended, submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery overlooks San Francisco Bay.
