1984 Monte Bello Ruby Cabernet

Our single acre of head-pruned Ruby Cabernet was planted in the late nineteen-forties. When the grapes ripen fully, as they did in 1984, they produce excellent wines. In this fine vintage, the acidity is quite firm and lends elegance to the clean Cabernet flavors. the wine should develop further elegance and complexity with five to seven years of bottle age. This approach determines our style and includes the use of the natural yeasts in extended, submerged-cap fermentations, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
