Vintage Notes

In this cool vintage, yields were good on the Jimsomare Ranch, and the vines matured when the grapes were still at very moderate sugar levels. The acidity is firm, and the wine is the most elegant we have seen from these vines. After the malolactic fermentation it was aged for twenty months in small cooperage, and in the winter prior to bottling was lightly fined. This Cabernet will profit considerably from five years of further bottle age, yet with its elegant style will show well even when young. PD (11/85)

History

Begun in 1959, Ridge was one of the first of today’s chateau-size California wineries-those that limit production to attempt the highest quality. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
