Vintage Notes

In this cool year, the first of several Cabernet vineyards on the York Creek Ranch matured ten days later than usual. The last grapes were harvested early in November. An “Indian Summer” gave us excellent quality and relatively low sugar levels at maturity. This fine cabernet has the tannin and balance to ag well but is round and soft enough to be quite enjoyable with a year of bottle age. PD (8/84)

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
