Vintage Notes

The cool growing season of 1982 gave us small, intense grapes on the old Dusi Vineyard. This concentration, combined with the good acidity the region provides, resulted in a tougher than usual structure. Part of the vintage was aged in new oak. All of it completed a full malolactic fermentation. The wine will soften considerably within six months and should be in its prime over the next five years.

History

Founded in 1959, Ridge produced its first vintage as a bonded winery in 1962. With the 1982 wines we celebrate our twentieth anniversary. From the beginning, close adherence to traditional winemaking techniques has set Ridge apart. This approach determines our style and includes submerged-cap fermentation, use of the natural wine yeasts, aging in small oak cooperage, and careful racking at every transfer to achieve clarity. Located above 2300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, our winery and main vineyards overlook San Francisco Bay.
